RR 1:
When planning my ITU, I will include several stratagies to help close the achievement gap in specific groups. In order to help close the achievement gap between girls I plan to; include women and especially women of minorities in my lessons and wall displays, stop using gender biases when I address groups, use collaborative learning and make sure to avoid gender seating patterns when establishing these groups.

To help close the achievement gap for Hispanic students I will relate material to real life experiences and give students “big picture ideas” not minute facts. Also by presenting challenges with clear directions, then explaining how student work met the expectations. Lastly, by encouraging parent and community involvement to help promote student success.

RR 2:
Activity 7.1 - Our group has decided on looking at how humans impact the environment. Our group includes a biology teacher who will focus on how this occurs, a math teacher who will include calculations of lab tests and explanations of graphs and charts, a physical education teacher who will discuss how these changes to the environment can affect the human body, and a history teacher who will discuss how the local history and how this may have affected the environment. Below is a brainstorming web that I have come up with to share with my group.
Activity 7.2 -
1. How are humans impacting the environment?
2. How can we test/calculate this?
3. How has this impacted our local area? Globally?
4. How does this impact you? The community? What can you do to help?

RR 3:
- Integrated curriculum = a way of teaching and a way of  planning the instructional program so   the discrete disciplines of subject matter are interrelated.

(1) matches the developmental needs of the learners
(2) helps connect the students’ learning in ways that are meaningful to their
experiences
- Plan ITU based on past tests for your content and grade level, this ensures that you will prepare students for high stakes testing in addition to ITU.
- Vary instruction to include days/weeks to switch between ITU & other course work
- Use student input to help guide instruction

RR 4:
Some tasks that I will be able to contribute more to are the development of the ITU rational and enduring questions. I would also like to take the lead with the cover sheets and the poster creation.

RR 5:
Our theme will be human impacts on the environment. I have found a website where you can create virtual interactive posters called glogster.com. I plan to create our coversheet on this site and post it to our ITU site.

RR6: My Personal LEarning Network (PLN) consists of:
iGoogle - Twitter - Blogger - Glogster - Pintrest - Facebook - Edmodo - ClassDojo
RR 7:
Service Learning = connects curriculum to concerns in the real world
- can be on campus, local, or distant locations
- can be direct service
(students see recipients), indirect (don’t see recipients), or

advocacy
(to create awareness)

Service Learning Standards:
1. Meaningful Service - students determine community need
2. Link to Curriculum - apply to content
3. Reflection - think about experience
4. Diversity - expose students to a wide range of backgrounds
5. Youth Voice - let students recognize how they are improving their community
6. Partnerships - work with community members, parents, organizations, businesses,
and government; students interact with diverse people and backgrounds and people
7. Progress Monitoring - students set baseline for results, and observe and calculate
along the way
8. Duration and Intensity - should be long enough to progress through the 5 stages,
emphasis on process more than goal
Process of Service Learning:
1. Investigation - identify student resources & community need
2. Preparation and Planning - determine skills and supplies needed, research sources,
and create action plan
3. Action - plan is carried out, more questions develop and students continue to learn
4. Reflection - students reflect on experience, knowledge or skills learned; best to
compare initial assumptions to actual experiences
5. Demonstration - present what students learned to others, helps to develop
metacognition, celebrate the student accomplishment

RR 8:
Ideas for Service Learning: create school wide recycling program, environmental clean up, plant community garden, volunteer to be docents for nature hikes

This week we attended a seminar on co-teaching strategies by Jackie Thousand. One strategy that I have used is parallel co-teaching, when my cooperating teacher and I have split the class in half and

  1. Good work on RR 1-9, You may want to choose one activity for service learning (RR8), add more info and images for RR 9. Please add a link for your ITU webpage.
